Welcome To Science Movement!

The Science Movement Program is designed to undertake initiatives aimed at inspiring and engaging children of the age group from 6-18 years in Science, Mathematics and Technology through observation, experimentation, inference drawing, and model building, etc. It also seeks to create curiosity, excitement and spirit of innovation & exploration amongst the school students, by providing them the right kind of exposure and strong motivation to study Science and Mathematics.

What’s ailing in today’s science education?

Science taught in school is often out of context and seems irrelevant to the lives of students, because of which many lose interest in the same. Apparently students reject science that is in coherent with their own lives, where there is no space for an out-of- box thinking and their curiosity. And if a student’s own imagination is overlooked, then even the most careful groundwork on the part of the teacher is a waste.
It is vital, therefore, to highlight the significance of science and its relevance to the students’ lives. Students also need more positive and realistic demonstrations of the scope & limitations of science and scientists. Both of these challenges can be addressed by mobilising the scientific and engineering research community.

Science Camp 1:

The first camp of Science Movement was organized at Suryansh Hotels & Resorts, Bhubaneswar from 17th to 21st December, 2016. Some of the leading researchers from highly reputed institutes like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research(TIFR), Bhaba Atomic Research Centre(BARC), National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Institute of Physics, and Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences participated in this event as guest speakers. A total 100 selected students of classes IX and X from schools, spread across 17 districts of Odisha, attended the programme. The deliberations covered some of the advanced concepts in the fields of applied Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, Mathematics and Biology ; and live demonstration like that on liquid nitrogen fascinated the students. Night-sky observation through telescope on the last day of the event turned out to be a life-changing experience for many.
